MEDICAL/ VISUALIZATION: “RAPID, TIMELY DIAGNOSIS AND MONITORING OF MICROBIAL INFECTIONS BY MEANS OF AN AUTOMATED, POINT-OF-CARE, DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (DIAMOND)” (EU / GREECE funding, consortium: SoftCom International, NCSR-DEMOKRITOS, National Technical University of Athens, Vioanalysi Kitili), status: running
The DIAMOND project aims at developing a prototype of a fully automated, portable diagnostic system, for the rapid, efficient and low-cost detection of infectious diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria, through the detection of their DNA. More specifically, a diagnostic system built around a lab-on-a-chip, is under development (NCSR DEMOKRITOS), where the bacteria (E.Coli) DNA amplification will be performed rapidly and efficiently, as well as the detection of amplified DNA on a Field Effect Transistor biosensor.
The instrument will be accompanied by a novel web application, for processing, storage, and smart representation (mapping and temporal evolution) of data originating from such diagnostic systems. The capability of data storage for a long period (historic data), in order to monitor disease spread in space and in time, will be offered. This web application is the contribution of SoftCom International to this research project.
